American Traditional Tattoos

American Traditional tattoos are one of the most iconic and enduring styles in tattooing. Known for bold outlines, strong shading, and classic imagery like roses, daggers, eagles, and panthers, these tattoos are designed to stay readable and striking for years to come.

Phoenix tattoo artist Andrew Tamayo creates American Traditional tattoos that honor the roots of the style while keeping the design clean, balanced, and built to last. Whether you’re looking for a classic standalone piece or adding to a patchwork sleeve, these timeless designs deliver bold impact and lasting character.

Mandala Tattoos

Mandala tattoos are built around symmetry and repeating geometric patterns that create a sense of balance and harmony. These designs often radiate outward from a central point, forming intricate patterns that are both visually striking and deeply symbolic.

Andrew Tamayo designs custom mandala tattoos that flow naturally with the body, paying close attention to spacing, precision, and placement. From small ornamental designs to larger geometric compositions, each piece is created to maintain its structure and clarity over time.

Fine Line Blackwork Tattoos

Fine line blackwork tattoos focus on precision, subtle detail, and clean minimalist design. Using delicate linework and controlled contrast, these tattoos create refined imagery that feels modern, understated, and highly detailed.

Andrew Tamayo approaches fine line blackwork with a steady hand and careful attention to composition. Whether it’s a small symbolic piece or a more intricate design, the goal is always the same: crisp lines, balanced detail, and a tattoo that heals clean and holds its shape.

Floral Tattoos

Floral tattoos combine natural beauty with timeless symbolism. From bold roses to flowing botanical arrangements, flower tattoos can be adapted into many styles while maintaining their elegance and visual impact.

Andrew Tamayo creates custom floral tattoos designed to complement the natural curves of the body. Whether you’re looking for a delicate single flower or a larger botanical composition, each piece is thoughtfully designed to balance detail, placement, and long-term durability.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have any questions? I got you covered here are some of my most frequently asked

How much will my tattoo cost?

Every tattoo is different. Pricing depends on the size, placement, details, and time required. Once I know your idea, I can give you an accurate quote.

The time varies depending on the design. Small tattoos may take under an hour, while larger or more detailed pieces can take several hours or multiple sessions.

Everyone experiences pain differently. Some areas are more sensitive then others, but most people describe it as manageable. I’ll make sure you’re as comfortable as possible throughout the session.

Areas over bone or with thinner skin such as the ribs, feet, hands, spine, and sternum tend to be more sensitive. Fleshier areas like the forearm, outer thigh, and upper arm are usually easier to sit through.

Get a good nights sleep, eat a full meal before hand, stay hydrated, try to avoid alcohol or recreational drugs at least 24 hours before your appointment, and use a
moisturizer on the area getting tattooed days before appointment if possible. Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the area being tattooed.

No. I’ll prepare the area being tattooed if needed to make sure its done safely and correctly.

Yes. Eating before your tattoo appointment helps keep your blood sugar stable and can make the session much more comfortable. Bringing a snack for longer tattoo appointments
 is also a good idea.

Yes. I understand getting tattooed can make you nervous or anxious so bringing a friend is ok if it helps. Due to limited space we ask only one friend comes back with you for your tattoo appointment. You’re more then welcome to bring more then 1 person but they’ll have to wait in the lobby.

Can you create a custom design for me?

Absolutely. Custom tattoos are my specialty. I’ll work with you to create a design that’s unique and fits your vision. My styles included but are not limited to, fine line tattoos, American traditional tattoos, ornate mandalas, sacred geometry, black work tattoos, and anything with clean lines.

Of course. Reference photos and ideas are always welcome. I’ll use them to create a tattoo that works best for your body and style.

In most cases you can combine multiple ideas. Once you send me all your ideas ill be able to tell you if they will work best for your tattoo or not.

A tattoo that is properly designed, applied, and cared for can look great for many years. Sunscreen, moisturizing, and following after care instructions all help maintain
 its appearance.

I’ll recommend a size that allows the design to look its best now and as it ages. Sometimes going slightly larger helps preserve fine details over time.

Colors that work best all depend on if your warm or cool skin tones. We will go over color ideas when we go over your design.

In most cases you can cover an old tattoo. Usually the new tattoo will have to be bigger then the old tattoo you’re covering. If you’re looking for a cover up please send a
message and I will contact you asking for pictures of the tattoo you want covered and the idea you have for the new tattoo in order for me to see if your cover up is possible.

This all depends on the artist style you’re wanting to match. There are so many styles of art. Feel free to send any references over and ill let you know if ill be able to match that artist style or not.
