The Aftercare Process
The aftercare of your tattoo is the most important part of the tattoo process. It is what determines how well your tattoo looks as it ages along with your body.
Aftercare can be a tricky process that is why I like to use Derm Shield, a latex free transparent adhesive bandage on my tattoos with instructions to leave on for 3 days. A tattoo is an open wound and a layer of Derm Shield keeps it protected from the outside dirt and bacteria and leaves plasma on your tattoo which is what your body uses to heal wounds.
However not all cases call for a Derm Shield layer. Skin conditions, allergies, and tattoo placement can make it more difficult to place. In these situations I recommend using one pump of Dial unscented liquid antibacterial soap and water to wash the tattoo and pat dry with a paper towel 3 times a day, followed by a thin layer of aquaphor for the first 3 days and then a layer of lubriderm as needed.
Following these steps will ensure the life of your tattoo and keep it looking amazing as it ages.
